Subwoofer Gadget is a hardware adapter to enhance the subwoofer performance by
- Make the subwoofer louder and deeper
- it is effective to alleviate the narrow frequency response (thump or mono-tone) of the subwoofer to delivery detail, deeper, dynamic bass tone.
- it goes beyond the subwoofer physical limitation; especially for low power and small size subwoofer.
- in other words, it virtually makes a bigger size of the subwoofer.
- Subwoofer-move-in effect
- This effect is only working between the main speakers and the subwoofer.
- Make the low frequency effect (LFE) sound audibly from the main loudspeakers rather than the subwoofer; in other word, it avoids sound from separated places and gives a better listening experience.
- Overcome the subwoofer delay caused by wireless connection or a distance placement.
How to make subwoofer sound louder and deeper?
We use our patented method to reproduce the sound with multi-tone. For example, suppose the subwoofer is going to sound a pitch C1, the Gadget will generate additional pitches C2, C3, .etc. These additional pitches have similar tone as C1 and have the same auditory perception on music note “Do”. In such condition, our brain will interpret the multi-tone as the pitch C1. Eventually, the perceptive energy of the multi-tone makes the subwoofer sound louder than its actual and physical capability can deliver.
How to make the subwoofer sound move in and conceal its lag/delay?
The Subwoofer Gadget supports the precedence effect (aka Haas effect). The precedence effect describes the human’s ability to identify the sound localization under the condition of the multi-path reflection, e.g. in a room. Human will capture the first arrived sound as the source location and neglect the late reflective sounds from the same source.
Somehow, modern sound system design always emphasizes the bass response of the subwoofer because human cannot find the direction at low bass frequency sound and expects the subwoofer will reinforce the bass response of the main loudspeakers. In fact, the sound around the cross-over cut-off frequency between 250 and 150Hz is moderately audible and enables human to find that the sound is coming from the subwoofer instead of the main loudspeakers.
To overcome this problem, the Subwoofer Gadget will also enhance the bass response of the main loudspeakers. In general situation, if user sitting close to the main loudspeakers will firstly hear the low bass frequency coming from the main loudspeakers instead of the subwoofer so that the precedence effect is working to move the subwoofer sound in to enforce the main loudspeakers. In other words, we are regarding the subwoofer sound as the late (or delay) reflective sounds.
