What size of the room do we need to concern for room acoustics treatment? By calculation, if the room size is smaller than 30 feet in either dimension and classified as a small room.
Practically, a small room easily modifies the sound from the loudspeakers in the frequency range from 20 to 200Hz. Sound in this range is hardly absorbed but easily reflected from the surfaces, e.g. walls, etc. to create the room resonances. The problem is that it will boost and also reduce the bass level energy in different areas for each resonance frequency. Such uneven energy distribution degrades the room acoustics quality. If affordable, it is better to apply the room acoustics treatment to reduce such room modulation.
Room Acoustics Treatment in the market
What methods can improve the room acoustics other than proper room dimension ratio and loudspeakers placement? In the market, there are different solutions to make room acoustics improvement.
There are two kinds of product but they are still expensive. The passive products use the adsorption to prevent from sound reflection. On the other hand, the active products use the Digital Room Correction that is a digital signal processing to improve room acoustics.
Simply, the passive absorbing products can absorb the reflective sound and stop building up the room resonances. These products can just handle the sound content above 200Hz but not good below 100Hz.
The major active products have two approaches. One is using the rejection filter to eliminate and remove the several low-frequency resonances. Inevitably, the user will miss some contents. Other is using EQ to correct and average the low-frequency responses in a small calibrated listening area.
Although these two approaches can handle the resonances under 100Hz, they cannot serve a wide area. If the sound is outside the calibration area, the sound will become unsatisfactory.
Additional Features of FillBassDip
FillBassDip is the successor of the Subwoofer Gadget with additional features. They are Novel Digital Room Correction and Bass Boom Noise Abatement and will be described with the following details :-
- Novel Digital Room Correction (Novel DRC)
- Fill the bass dips in the nodes of the room resonances in your listening room. It is different from other Digital Room Correction products using the anti-node attenuation methods. As a result, the room can make the low end bass louder by the room resonance.
- Fully automatic and easy to use so that the user not needs to do any calibration, assumption or measurement of the their room.
- It effectively works below 100Hz but the expensive adsorbing product (e.g. bass trap) does not. And it can save you lots of money.
- User can place their subwoofer anywhere without worrying about the room modes so that user are free and very convenient.
- No restrictions in listening position and geometrical room dimension in order to get optimal sound.
- It can serve a wide listening area instead of a small calibrated area provided by the product available in Digital Room Correction marketplace.
- Bass Boom Noise Abatement (Electronic Isolation Pad)
- If the physical isolation pad is not enough to absorb the shaking and vibration transmitting out through the floor, this feature will help you.
- Prevent the low end bass from going through next door, or even across to your neighbors.
- Reduce the masking effect caused by the low end bass booming so that the details of the bass can be listened easily.
